7 Things every bedroom
should be

Plus tips on how to achieve them

What makes the perfect bedroom?

The answer of course is lots of things, from the bed you sleep on, to the bedroom furniture you choose. But we think there’s more to it than that. We believe there are 7 key ingredients everyone wants their bedroom to be. 7 qualities that make a bedroom perfect in every way. Over the next few pages we’re going to count them down. And more than that, we’ll show you how to achieve them too.

This information guide will tell you all you need to know about creating your perfect bedroom.

1. Individual

How to create a space that's uniquely you

Turn your bedroom into a stylish sanctuary where you can rest and relax.
Your bedroom is the most personal room in your home. Here are a few pointers on how to create a style that reflects your personal taste.

Decide what look you're going for

Your first step is to decide what your style personality is. Bright and colourful? Warm and inviting? Cool and contemporary?
Then look to apply this across every element of the room, from your bed frame to your bedroom walls.

Do you like the clean, uncluttered simple look? MODERN style is all about creating a space that’s understated yet elegant. Go for cool, calming colours, mixed with deep wood tones and textured fabrics. Bring it to life with pops of bold colour.

Do you like the timeless, nostalgic look? Lots of ornate detailing and curved lines? The TRADITIONAL look is all about pairing timeless designs with deep, rich wood tones and neutrals colours. You’re trying to create a warm, inviting space to cosy up in.

Is your bedroom a blank canvas just waiting for you to add your eclectic tastes onto? Make a BOLD style statement by mixing and matching patterns, textures and styles to create a quirky, interesting space that feels fun and informal.

Choose the bed frame to match

Bed frames typically come in one of 3 materials, with each one adding a different quality to your room.

Cool and contemporary, metal bed frames introduce a light and airy feel to your bedroom. The only question is whether you want to go for a more muted, brushed metal finish, or choose a hi-shine chrome look bed frame

Wood bed frames give your room a timeless quality, whether you go for ash, beech, oak or pine. Their natural beauty of a wooden bed frame means it will blend well into any colour scheme too.

The look of a real leather bed frame suggests luxury and opulence, ideal if you want to give your bedroom a sumptuous, indulgent feel.

Add interest with accessories

Never under-estimate the effect a well-placed cushion, a colour coordinating throw or an extraordinary ornament can have on your room.
Always look for contrasts... if your colour scheme is muted, go for vibrant accessories and vice versa.

Dr Guy's tips for a comfortable night's sleep

There are lots of debates about which sleeping position is better than others. It is often mentioned that sleeping on your back is best as it helps keep natural alignment of the spine, however, sleeping on your back increases the likelihood of you snoring. The best sleeping position is different from person to person, it is the position that you feel most comfortable and then enables you to get the best sleep.
