Staying hydrated is bang on-trend right now, many people are carrying big water bottles around with them so there’s no excuse not to drink enough of the wet stuff, but is it actually good for you to drink a glass of water as soon as you wake up? Water is our essential ‘life force’ so to speak, and drinking it is vital to staying on top of our health game.

Every function in your body needs water to stay working, and drinking enough water aids digestion, so drinking a glass of water as soon as you get out of bed can help to ‘wake up’ your digestive system and make you feel less groggy.

Think of it this way – your body is repairing and rejuvenating itself while you sleep, and a glass of water when you wake up will give you that all-important hydration that’s been lost during the night. If you prefer a hot coffee in the morning, why not substitute it for a delicious herbal tea instead?

How can drinking enough water help me lose weight?

Sometimes, our bodies say they’re hungry when, in fact, they’re just thirsty. So, drinking more water can actually stop us from overeating and help us to regulate our portion sizes too. The trick is to make drinking a glass of water just as much of a habit as reaching for a sugary snack when our body is feeling those ‘hunger’ pangs.

I’m going on a night out and will be drinking alcohol, how can I stay hydrated?

It’s no secret that alcohol dehydrates us, so if you have a big night planned try to alternate every alcoholic drink you have with a glass of water. Not only will this help you to avoid the hangover the next day, but it will also help you have a more restful sleep by balancing your sugar levels.
