New mattresses ‘can help to aid rest’
Regularly replacing items such as mattresses and pillows can help people to secure a better night’s sleep.
This is the assertion made in an article by Richard Laliberte and Benita Sen, in which they claim that pillows should be changed for new products each year in order to secure better sleep as old versions can be breeding grounds for dust mites and trigger allergies.
Writing for Wonder Woman, the two authors explained that “a protective extra cover” may double the life of pillows, particularly during warm summers.
Meanwhile, they advocate replacing mattresses every five to ten years in order to sleep well and reduce back pain, always changing it if it starts to look sunken or worn out.
“Change the side and direction of the mattress every three months clockwise or anti-clockwise so that it doesn’t form a depression and give you a backache,” housekeeping specialist Swati Sharma told the news source.
According to the Sleep Council, up to 40 per cent of the population suffers from back pain each year, making a good mattress more important than ever.
