To our Bensons family

Following the Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s announcement on Monday evening, we have made the very difficult decision to suspend production at our factories as well as stop all home deliveries, effective from today, Tuesday 24th March.

For the past 70 years our mission has been to serve you and to champion people’s Sleep Wellness and mental and physical wellbeing. We believe that during this very difficult time, this is more important than ever.

This decision, which has been made with the safety of our customers and colleagues first and foremost in our minds, means you can still order online, but we regrettably cannot confirm a delivery date given the current Covid-19 situation. We will of course continue to monitor the governmental guidelines over the coming weeks and will work hard to ensure that you receive your order as soon as practically possible.

Sleep tips from our sleep expert, Dr Sophie Bostock

For many who are being asked to stay at home or self-quarantine, this will cause additional stress. We want to support you so you have all the necessary tools to maintain your wellbeing. Here are some tips from Sophie Bostock, Sleep Expert for Bensons for Beds, to help you get a good night's sleep:

  • Sunlight increases the brain's production of serotonin, the feel-good hormone. If you're having to spend more time indoors make sure to sit next to a window to ensure you're getting a regular energy boost
  • If worries are interfering with your sleep, allocate a 20 minute 'worry time' into your daily schedule. Use this time to reflect and write down your worries before moving on
  • Regular physical activity is associated with deeper, more restorative sleep. If you're unable to attend your regular exercise classes, replace this with long walks in the outdoors
  • Sleep deprivation messes with the emotional control centres in the brain and automatically puts you on high alert; more anxious, irritable and stressed. Negative thoughts are more likely to pop into your brain but remember these are just thoughts, powered by a brain in survival mode
  • If all else fails, there is some good news if you have had a bad night's sleep. Your brain is very good at recovery sleep. The night after a restless night, the odds are that you will sleep more deeply
