How COVID-19 is Disturbing Our Sleep | Sleep Hub | Bensons

Coronavirus ‘lockdowns’ are disturbing our sleep but improving our family relationships, according to a new poll by Bensons for Beds.

That’s the view of a staggering 76% of us who are sleeping worse in the past 7 months, with many of us worrying about the impact of COVID-19 on our health and personal finances.

But it’s not all doom and gloom – as 71% of us are enjoying better relations with our children and significant others, all thanks to social distancing measures that encourage us to stay at home.

The differing results comes as the UK could be heading for even tighter restrictions, following an increase in the number of people testing positive for COVID-19.

Bensons for Beds took to Instagram with a series of polls, asking up to 212 people about their sleep, diet and personal relationships during the height of the first national lockdown. While not unexpected, the results give an authentic insight into how the pandemic has impacted our lives – for better, and worse.

With pubs and clubs shut, and many of us being encouraged to work home, coronavirus lockdowns have also made us reassess our day-to-day lives:

“I have a much better work/life balance now I’m not spending 2 hours a day commuting to and from the office”, one pollster admitted.

The restrictions have also given us more personal time, with many of enjoying an uplift in leisure time:

“It’s given me chance to get more things done in the house”, another said.

But the uplift in free time has presented its own challenges, with many of us turning to unhealthy eating. In fact, 3 in 4 (75%) admit our diet had taken a hit during lockdown.

Our exercise routines suffered too – with only 1 in 3 of us (36%) making the effort to workout at home.

And for those on furlough or redundancy, the first lockdown has left them with negative feelings:

“I get lots of cabin fever and want to go out and do things!”, one person admitted.
