9 tips for a simple bedroom makeover
Your bedroom should be your sleep sanctuary. It should be a calming, relaxing space and one that promotes sleep rather than hinders it. However, sometimes though we lose sight of this and bedrooms easily become cluttered, tired and uninviting.
Don’t let yourself fall into the trap – it’s time to spruce up your room with a quick bedroom makeover.
Here are nine ways to do just that:
- Take a step back
The first thing you should do is review your current space and question how it caters to your needs and tastes. Does it visually reflect your personality? Does it feel restful and calming? Is it too cluttered? Does it really show your personal style, or has it just become too functional?
Ask yourself some questions, set objectives, and begin planning your bedroom ideas.
- Refresh with new bedding
One of the simplest ways to change up the look of your bedroom is to refresh your bedding. A serene green will create a comforting and relaxing feel, a delicate nude pink will add a touch of sophistication, while golden yellow is a rich and opulent choice. Take your pick from this year’s hottest trends.
- Go wild with colour
Refreshing your walls with a lick of paint is a quick way of really transforming the space. Consider mixing and matching colours to make more of a statement, rather than simply opting for one neutral tone. Colour blocking is a big trend in bedroom decoration in 2018, so it could be time to go big and bold by mixing it up on your walls.
- Clear your space (and your mind)
Use that critical eye and rid your room of anything that isn’t conducive to a good sleep. Too many clothes hanging around the space can make it feel crowded and smaller – if your bedroom acts as a second wardrobe it’s time to be a little ruthless and get rid of anything you don’t need. As well as ensuring it’s tidy, always keep it as clean as possible. Clean room = clean mind.
- Open up the room with a statement mirror
A large mirror on the wall will reflect the light in your bedroom and make it feel much bigger, which is ideal for smaller, more cramped rooms. New metallics – industrial shades of metal – are one of the hottest interior trends of the year, so a metallic gold, silver or brass finish is a great way to make a statement.
- Find some contemporary art
Rather than going run of the mill when it comes to any prints or pictures you choose to hang on your walls, opt for a piece of contemporary art to really bring your personality to the fore. Also consider placing it slightly behind your other décor – it will bring table lamps, dressers and bedroom accessories to life.
- Change the lighting
A simple way to change the feel of your room is to mix up your lighting options. Don’t simply rely on the main light or just use your bedside lamps for reading. Consider coloured bulbs or mood lighting to make it a more understated, inviting and calm space before bed.
- Bring some life in
If you’re stripping back your bedroom and making it a clutter free space, you don’t want it to be too bare. Bringing a little life in with some house plants is a fantastic option for bedroom decoration, as well as making it a healthy space to be in as the right plants can remove toxins from the air as well as generate oxygen. Just make sure you do your research to find out which do the best job, and which need the least looking after.
- Question your pillow situation
Too many pillows (and cushions) aren’t helpful for a good night’s sleep. Remember, a bedroom makeover is all about ensuring it’s the best possible space to assist with your sleeping. Two pillows per person is all you need – it’s also worthwhile investigating the best pillow that caters to your sleeping position as well as helps to regulate temperature.
With just a few simple touches, your bedroom will feel like new.
